G+_Jason Perry
Okay with all this talk of multi-rotors using ducted props, what are the pros and cons?
G+_Carlton Dodd
Pros: Greater lift and less prop noise due to reduced tip turbulence. Cons: They're REALLY hard to get right. To be honest, in hobby applications, the greater lift is usually just enough to overcome the duct weight.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
I've already got this segment in the can. :) Ducting your props allows you to avoid efficiency loss from edge turbulence. You should be able to run your props at a lower speed and get the same amount of lift. The trick is the construction of the duct itself because: 1. You don't want your duct to be so heavy that you lose the efficiency gained by the duct. 2. You don't want your duct to be so light that it flexes, potentially making contact with the prop, causing an uncontrolled flight into terrain. But when you get it right.... booooyah!
