G+_Jason Perry
Anyone with experience with SDRs? I got this one and I am trying to get it working with SDR#. I used the instructions at rtlsdr.org but I think something has changed since airspy bought sdr#. SDR# tells me there is no device selected, but when I go to the settings there are no options in the device drop down. http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00D3X9LR4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01
G+_Eddie Foy
Hak5 had an entire series. I think snubs put them all in a youtube playlist too.
G+_Dave Schmarder
There are some SDR projects part way down this page: http://makearadio.com/visitors/index-nick.php
G+_Ben Reese
Last I checked, Hak5 is still doing SDR stuff. No experience personally though.
G+_Jason Perry
Eddie Foy?, Ben Reese?, The Hak5? stuff is what spurred the purchase. Only SDR# seems to have changed hands and I am wondering if that's why I am having issues getting it running. Dave Schmarder?, thanks I will have to check it out. G+_Eddie Foy
Does GNU Radio /companion run on Windows? Its a pretty nice. I just wouldn't run it through a VM. Timming/bandwidth issues.
G+_Jason Perry
Dave Schmarder?, great link. When I get the radio working I may have to try one of the projects on the page.
G+_Steve C
I have some SDR's that I got on Ebay for $8 working both in Windows and on Android tablets. Tablets are the easiest since you only need to install 3 things, SDR Touch, SDR key and the RTL2832U driver and connect the SDR with an OTG cable. G+_Steve C
BTW, if you want to pick up more than just the strongest local FM station toss out the whip antenna that comes with it and get a good roof mount antenna. Remember the antenna needs to cover the frequencies you want to receive. A police scanner all band discone type antenna or Procomm Spider works well or you can just use a whip like a car radio or CB antenna as long as it isn't tuned to any particular frequency. G+_Eddie Foy
A discone antenna would be best. They are very wide band. Ugly as all get up, but work real nice on Rx, so-so on Tx
G+_Steve C
I just installed the SDR in Win 10. All I had to do was download SDRSharp and Zadig. Run Zadig and use it to configure the correct USB driver then run SDRSharp to tune in stations.
G+_Steve C
The SDRSharp and Zadig software can be downloaded from Nooelec here: http://www.nooelec.com/files/sdr-install.zip
G+_Jason Perry
Steve C? good to know that's who I got it from.
G+_Steve C
If you are going to use an outside antenna you also need an MCX Male to SMA Female RG316 Low Loss Pigtail Adapter Cable like the ones on Amazon although you can find them cheaper on Ebay and with more types of antenna connectors such as BNC, N, UHF or whatever you need to match the antenna. G+_Steve C
Jason did you get it going? They have a plug-in that makes it play in Chrome and on the Chromebook now just called Radio Receiver. It's pretty basic but it works and doesn't require any setup.
G+_Jason Perry
Short answer, no. Haven't had the time to trouble shoot it. All I know at this point is, the computer recognizes it and sdr# doesn't.
