G+_Jason Perry
Here is a ques tion for all the networking people. If you maintain a network, other than your own, what information do you keep about the network in your notebook? I look after a few and have never bothered writing anything down but it is becoming too much. I am starting with IP addresses and usernames and passwords, is there anything else I should keep handy? G+_Jason Perry
I think the largest is around 40 static IPs
G+_Eddie Foy
Now if you need installed software and patch management Nessus (paid over 32 IPs/commercial) or Open VAS (install/config struggle) will help but not to a massive level. PowerShell scripts I'm sure abound.
G+_Steve Martin
usernames and passwords should be somewhere secure like LastPass. Keep a central hosts file with the static IPs. If you maintain DNS make sure you backup the Zone files and make whatever notes you need, preferably as comments inside the files wherever possible. If its not too late, come up with standard schemes for IPs. Like having all printers in specific ranges. Same with email servers, routers, etc. So when you see an IP you have an idea what it is.
