G+_Jason Perry
Few quick questions. Is Google fiber, fiber all the way to the modem in your house? Is there a DOCCIS modem that can hit 1GB down?
G+_Eddie Foy
I think TWiET had a blip about one of the cable companies rolling out 1Gb on current infrastructure. Not sure of the fiber.
G+_Joe Jones
Sounds like the fiber comes into your home. https://support.google.com/fiber/answer/2657583?hl=en
G+_Brian Horovitz
I have Google fiber here in kc there fiber comes into the house and terminates into a fiber jack that converts to ethernet and runs to a gigabit router/modem

G+_Ben Reese
Brian Horovitz I'm so jealous. I'm in Gardner they haven't brought Google Fiber this far yet. Looking at houses around Olathe though, so hopefully I'll be in the Fiber club before too long!
G+_Ben Reese
I believe that was Comcast that they said is experimenting with Gigabit over their current network. According to the docsis wiki, 24 channels down and 8 up will give you about 1030×250Mbps (down×up). A quick search took me to the Arris SB6190 on Best Buy which said it will do 32×8. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/arris-surfboard-docsis-3-0-high-speed-broadband-cable-modem-white/4600801.p So, yes. I believe Gigabit cable modems are available - though not symmetric Gigabit like fiber can offer.
G+_Travis Hershberger
According to some random person at dslreports Google Fiber is using GPON (shared ports) in most areas. Even if they are using GPON tho, 10GB and 40GB fiber ports should be able to keep everyone on the connection at gigabit speeds. So yes, it is really fiber to the home, but some people whine and complain about them using shared ports. http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Google-Fiber-to-Launch-in-Salt-Lake-City-by-Years-End-136577
