G+_Jason Turner
At 40 light years away, I hardly think that my tax dollars should go towards any further investigation of this solar system. I wish I had direct control of where my tax dollars were spent...
G+_David Pick
Jason Turner? Your right, even if light speed travel becomes reality,it would take 40 years one way to reach that solar system. But I thought of all the bad Trump news yesterday, this was the best news of the day. I'm going to guess you did not care for National Geographic's show "MARS" that aired last fall. Now streaming on Hulu. I thought the last episode was very educational of why the Saturn V rocket was over built by Werner von Brawn for the Apollo moon missions.Because he had future visions of man later going to Mars after reaching the moon. Unfortunately, the Nixon administration didn't see the financial sense of the Apollo moon missions.Nixon himself made the decision to discontinue the moon missions and focus all NASA efforts to the space shuttle for the next 40 years. The point being, the planet Mars is reasonably within reach if private companies such as Space X send a manned mission to Mars.Eventually,it won't be just science fiction when someone is the first person to step on the Martian service. Your not wrong to not want U.S. taxpayers dollars to pay for it.But as man has had the ability to reach Mars for close to 50 years,it doesn't have to be fantasy. If private companies can offer the money and find the right people to do the job,I say let them do it. It would be a stepping stone for mankind. If we can safely reach Mars and live there, then eventually we would travel further and further away from Earth. G+_Jason Turner
David Pick Agreed. If private companies want to fund it, let them at it :) Just don't dig into my pocket for it...
