What maker tools do you have on your computer?

I think it is safe to say there is an obvious need for some sort of CAD software. I can't see a maker having a computer without having the Arduino IDE on it. Then there is the need for their favorite programming environment for their languages of choice.

What do you have on your computer?

I feel like I am overlooking a section of makerism.

Notepad++ and putty are a must for me. win32diskimager and infrarecorder are nice to have and I usually have them installed.

Cad software, I use LibreCAD. It's fairly nice 2d cad. But it will give me problems, so I will also use cadstd.

Programing environment. I use Netbeans, but I hate it. I just hate it less than eclipse. :)

610bob, I cant believe I forgot about putty, putty is a must.

I should mention Rufus for anyone looking to make a bootable USB, I love that program.

Can I ask what you have against eclipse, not that I am defending it. I want to start playing with an MQTT broker and I think I am going to be forced to use it.

Jason Perry I should preface this by saying that it has been a while since I have used eclipse. They may have improved. But my problem is that it is really bloated, sluggish and unstable.

I remember using it and not sure if the errors were in my code, or the ide. When it's having a good day, it's not bad, but it's those bad days that really irritated me.

Netbeans has similar problems. Like I have to use an older version for remote debugging to work (that only took me a month to figure out). But when you get it working, I find it more stable then eclipes.

I think both IDEs are built on java, which I think is there downfall.

My desktop is pretty slim right now, so I'll give a mix of what I use on my desktop and work laptop (in no particular order).

Notepad++

7-Zip

Visual Studio

Eclipse

Putty

SQL Server Management Studio

Win SQL

Win 32 Disk Imager

Sardu (similar to RUFUS, I think, and let's you create a multi-boot USB... Need to check Rufus out)

Libre Office

Cute PDF

WinDirStat

Ultra VNC

Win SCP

Audacity

VLC

Gimp

Paint.net

I'm sure there are others I missed. I typically start a PC setup by visiting Ninite.com and checking all the programs I like. That gives one installer and they promise to always give the latest version without any normally bundled add-ons (Ask Toolbar, McAfee, etc). If the program is already installed, Ninite will try updating it.

Jason Perry Xojo, didn't know they had a free version.  I'm quite a few versions behind, but I do like writing on the mac and cross compiling for Win and linux ( with just a few extra lines of code) without having to boot into them and compile.  And the remote debugger is kinda cool too.  install a stub and debug the target machine/os remotely.
