So I am willing to admit the Internet issue at my parents house is being caused by the 10 month old router.

 

I opened their laptop to see the only wireless connection is the default the router came with. On top of that now that I am connected I can ping the router but there isn't a landing page. Any thoughts on what's resetting the router?

 

PS it's mounted high enough I have to get on a ladder to get to it.

Did you port scan it? If there is no 80/445 then maybe the webserver went down. If it has 22/23 ssh/telent, maybe you can get in and just reboot it from there.

Is that fing you used for the port scan? I love that app. Between tools like that and guacamole, I'm using a full PC less and less lately. (Although guac is a bit of a cheat).

Just got a phone call from my father's ISP.

 

They just told me that they just noticed the issue we have been having for the past year isn't the router. When they took a closer look at it there has been a brief signal loss followed by the router reconnecting. In their words the signal loss is so brief it looks like the router is just reconnecting on its own.
