With the web based TWIT IRC, is it possible to respond to people and have them notified?

With the web based TWIT IRC, is it possible to respond to people and have them notified? I have been in the room and people have used my name and it gives me a little notification sound. How can I do this for other people I am responding to?

 

I generally just use the @username response, but I'm pretty sure this doesn't give them the notification sound.

 

I have searched twit wiki and the net for an answer to this simple question and cannot find it.

That notification you're hearing is because the web client does that by default. Many (most?) of us using dedicated clients (mIRC, X-Chat, etc) turn that off.
