G+_Jason Perry
All right, I finally want to get an Automatic. Here is my problem, do they still sell the original? I doubt the Pro works outside the US
G+_Ben Reese
I don't have one, but would assume the Pro has a SIM card in it that might be able to be swapped for another carrier's. I've been using a cheap Bluetooth dongle and Torque on Android to get probably 50% of the features (more if I put the time into it) at a small fraction of the cost. The next thing I need to do is setup the Torque web server to send the data back to my home server. If the Automatic does speed limit alerts, I don't know how well that would work outside the US. G+_David Wiggins
Ben Reese? do you use the free or paid version of torque? I've been using Dash, but considering the other. Dash gives me map info, fuel econ, engine temp and battery charge. It does some driving score, and things like alerts for rapid acceleration, but I haven't found a breakdown for individual trips, only a general able for each. What type of info do you get from torque?
G+_Ben Reese
I use Torque Pro. The free is good too though. It doesn't do too much by way of alerts. There's an option to periodically check the engine codes so that's helpful. Another alert for notifying when the engine is warm, which is maybe more helpful for diesel engines? I've used it to log trips and it will do checks of each sensor at the interval you choose, so I've got it set to check RPM, speed (from GPS and vehicle), misfires, transmission gear, temperature, throttle position, battery (alternator) voltage, and several others. For real-time analysis it may not be so helpful, but if I was on a road trip and suddenly had problems it might be helpful for diagnostics. It will do other things like give your 0-60 mph, 0-100 km/h, engine load, fuel usage per hour, torque at the wheels (assuming you input the vehicle weight correctly)... For the check engine codes, it will give the current codes and the pending codes and tapping one of them usually links to a website giving more info about what that code means for different makes of vehicles. It sounds like Dash and Automatic do most of the work and analysis for you. Torque gives you the data to do that work yourself.
