We were talking about how to create your own zoned audio system for your house. Please feel free to join in.

 

Though I am looking at buying an am to get my project rolling. I would rather build one but I know there are a lot of different types what makes a t amp so good

Hifi berry is simply a dac you connect to a raspberry pi

 

I believe you can also buy one with a build in amp now but have not tried it.

Well building your own amp is rather expensive. They used to have a nice cheap amp called the amp6 which was $40 in parts then you just needed a power supply. It had no volume knob and was just a bare bone amp with no surge protection for your speakers.

 

That company disappeared. But an aluminum case and a power supply are most of the money anyway.

 

Pretty hard to build anything much under $150. Think I saw some gain cone amps that would run a bit cheaper.

 

I am pretty familiar with class T amps but they are pretty difficult to do well

 

This is the muse amp I liked but was unclear if it had a power supply.

Yeah I kept chewing up SD cards so this is good news. Would probably add upnp to it as well as a quick way to send to single location.

Volumio was biggest when I stopped looking. Base OS does not matter as nothing does multiroom out of the box.

 

Volumio had a nice web interface but pretty useless with sqeeze slave etc. Saw that some people were using snapcast.
