G+_Jason Perry
Here's my question. Now that we have talked about having an Arduino on a network, is it possible to use an Arduino to automate 6 computers starting in a particular order? Here's the problem the first wave of computers have to be up and running before the second wave start. My though is to use the Arduino to sent a WoL command and have a script in the start up folder to send a confirmation, but I am not quite sure how to go about either end of this. ? G+_Ben Reese
Do they always all start up? Could you have a task running on each one to send a start command to the next?
G+_Jason Perry
Yes all of them always start, but I feel it being a chain will start to take too long once I start adding more computers. I can easily see more than 12 computers being in this room. There should only be 2 waves of computers starting, but everyone in the first wave needs to be started before the second wave begins. G+_Ben Reese
I'd be curious to hear if anyone else has a recommendation. It looks like there are a few WoL projects and this guy links to some of them: forum.arduino.cc - Project Arduino - Wake On Lan your PC over internet (WoL)! Unfortunately, I don't have an ethernet shield to test with... Beyond that, Padre showed how to give a counter of page requests and there should be a way to send a code/message to the Arduino. That would let you see when the first set is started up - either by counting hits or by giving each it's own check-in code. Sorry I can't give better help, but it sounds like a fun project! G+_Jason Perry
Ben Reese???, thanks. Your links are better than what I found. I was looking on YouTube and all the videos were horrible and didn't show you enough to do it yourself. Now my biggest thing is to figure out how I am going to send the confirmation back to the Arduino that the computer is on. Well and build it. G+_Jason Perry
Wait.... I can ping it. Personally it's less ideal, but it keeps the whole process contained to the Arduino.
G+_Ben Reese
A PowerShell script set to startup should be able to hit the web server triggering the counter that Padre showed. Honestly I didn't pay close enough attention to the code to notice how/what he was counting.
G+_Tony Martin
I would use WOT with IFTTT and the arduino.
