I have been noticing lately my battery is dying faster than normal and I feel my phone heat up in my pocket.

I thought it was just me forgetting to exit out of an app or something like that every once and a while.

Now I just noticed I can clear all my apps in my tray and come back to it literally 30sec to a minute later and there are a completely random set of apps in it again.

Any suggestions? I have a Samsung GS7, I do have avast installed. The closest event I can think of to when this started is I had a whole bunch of updates a few weeks ago, then I started noticing this.

Jason Perry apps calling mothership for ... Well lets see.... Tracking, updates, active status(notifications), ads, sync with cloud,... Basically everything that those permissions do when you install an app that has full access to everything on the phone.

Watch those permissions when you install, if it's just a calculator, why does it need wifi/bluetooth?

Jason Perry you probably know this, but the apps in your recent apps list may not actually be open and open apps may not actually be in your recent apps list. On Android, apps often run in the background taking up ram just so they're ready when you call on them. In settings, you should have an option to view battery usage per app and maybe RAM usage per app. I'd probably go off those two metrics to find what's eating battery.

Also, you may check your location (GPS) settings. There's an option in there to allow constant scanning even if wifi and Bluetooth are "off". I've seen that kill my battery in the past.

Jason Perry? anytime an Android phone recieves a major update, I recommend doing a factory reset. It tends to help reduce problems arising from an upgrade.

Also, take Avast off there. If you are using the Play Store and not downloading apps from Russia, China, or anywhere else outside the US, you are fine.

If you are using Avast for device location, use Google's own Find My Device App. I can't think of anything else that Avast might be used for.

I haven't installed an AV on my phone in probably 6+ years. Lookout is usually pre-installed and I typically disable it. Left it enabled after my last factory reset and it hasn't ever flagged anything.

Addons Detector is more helpful to me. I run it occasionally to see what types of ads my apps are all using. If it adds a shortcut to my home screen or gives me an ad in the notification tray, it has to go.
