G+_Karen Hope
Technology has moved very fast regarding phones. Cookers? Not so much. Whether we eventually will get to that point with phones only time will tell.
G+_Donna Daley
I wouldn't expect a $500 computer to last five years.
G+_Jeff Jarvis
First, that you'll soon buy the phone for $200. Second, I second Donna Daley

G+_Karen Hope
We also don't depend on our washing machines for everything to streamline our lives and communications as well.
G+_George Kozi
in that case, does the phone have special status?
G+_Donna Daley
I tend to replace washing machines, cookers, etc when they break. Smart phones get replaced when something else comes out which is much better. They are usually still functional.
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Mature devices don't need upgrade that's why they are showing 4k Tv's 1080p tv has saturated the market. In phones as long as innovation is there upgrades will be way faster...
G+_Jorge Martinez
Well technically you don't have to replace that phone. People choose to replace their smartphone that often, but really the phone is still in perfect working conditions.

G+_Jason Stopcznyski (Jaso
Working in a bike shop I can understand that whole list. My shop has sold bike for over 80 years and we still get people wanting the same bike they had 40 years ago. To add to that... A bike that was $250.00 in 1972 would cost today around $2,500. But they think if bike cost more then $250 then it way to much.
G+_Robert Howard
Who expects a $500 refrigerator to last 10 years? Maybe a $2k one, but $0.5k is pretty low end. Same for the rest of the appliances you mentioned. A $500 bike is above average, though. Plus, how much should these things cost if you factor in the true cost of mitigating the environmental damage they cause? Most people could not care less about what happens to the environment in whatever country (China) makes this stuff, just that a phone costs less.?
