I am thinking of the segmentation of my network and am looking at small reasonably priced tablet that could live on the IoT segment.

 

Requirements,

Android

Fit I to the pocket of a men's pair of cargo shorts.

Rootable is a very attractive bonus.

Don't care about the camera.

 

Also open to suggestions on what else I should be looking for.

Jason Perry What's your project & budget? Knowing these 2 variables will assist in suggesting a solution. Would 7" been too big? Samsung Tab A is 7" WiFi only, shouldn't be too expensive if they're still available in your neck of the woods.

The only things that warrant more investigation are:

there is only 8GB of memory, don't see this being a problem for what I am using it for but would hate to buy it and find out the OS takes up so much space that I no longer have room for apps and,

It is running Android 5.1 so I am guessing it has been a while since any updates have been released.

Kindle Fire 7"? Starts at $50ish (??) for the 8GB model. I'm pretty sure it's been rooted or at least can side load the Google Play Store (I've done it on my kids' Fire tablets).

 

And 7" should be pocketable in cargo shorts.

Those Amazon fire tablets are dirt cheap. I got the non-hd version for $33, on sale. In theory you should be able to flash a custom rom if you want to go full Android.

It's funny I went to Amazon to look at the CAD price of a Kindle fire, currently unavailable. Looked at different Kindles, they are also currently unavailable.

 

Tried to see what it would cost from the US store, it wouldn't let me ship it to Canada.

 

Oh well, I am not in a rush. I still have a lot of work to do.
