G+_Jason Perry
HELP! My kid starts school next week and I just found out he needs to bring headphones?! He is going into kindergarten. I am kinda interested in what your opinion is of a 4 year old wearing headphones, and if you have any suggestions on what I should be looking for. I am looking for something under $40, preferably under $30, I have a feeling I will be buying a few.
G+_Black Merc
Dollar store! 10 x $1-$5 headphones is (imho) cheaper and will better serve rough and roudy kindergarteners than 1 $40 set... Chances of damage or loss are high.
G+_Reggie Henneman
Headphones? My nieces are going into kindergarten and 3rd grade they need 15 to 20 items each. I understand why most of it won't make it to next year but why do they need so much of it.
G+_jim hatch
More concerned about db level into ears. What are they connected to?How is this controlled? Not hard to research how loud the output is. Don't lose your hearing, rather be blind than to have lost my audiophile ears.
G+_Jason Perry
jim hatch?, That's why I am looking at headphones that are so expensive. Otherwise I would be going with Black Merc?'s suggestion.
G+_Ben Reese
Wireless or wired? Before a road trip last year we got our kids all SoundBot for Kids. Those are wireless, though, and he probably needs wired? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074JHL7B5/ TekThing did a lineup of headphones designed for kids a year or two ago - all with dB limiting to keep from damaging ears. For wired headphones, most can't fully limit but I think instead add an in-line resistor to quiet the sound. A powerful enough amp could still cause ear damage. I like the dollar store idea, except for the lack of volume limits. Just my 2¢
G+_Jason Perry
Ben Reese?, do you remember how long ago tekthing did the episode? I would like to get the cheapest pair of volume limiting headphones I can find. Otherwise it will be the dollar store headphones.
G+_Black Merc
I have found that the cheaper they are = the less volume they have(but not allways). 32 ohm coils One could mod the earpieces with a small value resistor to ensure a cut in max volume. G+_Jason Brown
I'm not going to lie, it sounds like needless bull crap. I'm not sure I understand the purpose. What can these do that a normal speaker won't? Are the kids listening to different lessons? What are they plugging into?
G+_Reggie Henneman
If you go with cheaper ones they will last a month in the hands of children
G+_Black Merc
Mostly, lessons on computer(learning kids games, 'edutainment') The students will be able to 'play' on their own without distractions from the other students games.
G+_Jason Perry
The ones I am currently concidering are Belkilin's Crayola headphones. They are $25USD, only problem they come to $40+CAD. Learning how to volume limit sounds like a fun project.
G+_David Jenkins
Reggie Henneman They may only last a month anyway with the way kids lose stuff

G+_Joe Bustillos
I met this vendor this summer at an ed-tech conference (ISTE) who has a real passion for supporting audio in schools who can be reached at http://www.schoolphones.com. I think he's more set up to sell to schools, but given that all your parents are being directed to buy headphones, if you like his service, I'm sure he'd appreciate the word-of-mouth promotion. Good luck. secure.meetup.com - Create a Meetup Account
G+_Jason Perry
Joe Bustillos?, thanks for the link. Ben Reese?, I think I found the episode you are talking about. I watched the first few minutes, so far nothing I would buy a kid that young.

G+_Black Merc
If (and I stress 'if') school systems were offered a 'learning pod' that included all the necessary hardware. Sound, monitor and kb/mouse in an old racing arcade cabinet that kept the sights and sounds to the one user. I have toyed with a similar idea for fpv of model aircraft.
