G+_Jason Perry
Does anyone have a link to a page or video that talks about the pros and cons of different 3d printer technologies. I am personally interested in the pros and cons of the i3 style printers and the core XY style printers.
G+_Joe Valasko
You try the following web site that has many 3D printer reviews. all3dp.com - Reviews | All3DP
G+_Jason Perry
Thanks that looks like it has a comprehensive list of reviews. I think the only way I am going to come up with the info I want is to read reviews of similar printers and draw conclusions from there. I didn't think it would be hard to find a site that talks about the advantages of different designs, such as the print head stays in the XY plain and the bed travels along the Z, or when the bed travels along the Y axis. G+_Joe Valasko
From the same website here is a guide that might help. all3dp.com - 9 Basic Types of 3D Printers - 3D Printing Technology Guide | All3DP
G+_David Peach
I think the only 2 real advantages of the bed traveling along the Z as opposed to the Y are: 1. The size of the printer box is the total space you need for the machine. Easier to build an enclosure. 2. Taking timelapse videos are easier. Neither of those are hugely important. G+_Jason Perry
Joe Valasko now that I seen that last page I realized I had been there before. The more I look at that site the more I like it.
G+_Jason Perry
David Peach your points make sense. Not sure how much I care about my original question now. I didn't know if one method aloud for more rigidity.
G+_David Peach
Jason Perry I don't think there is a difference for strength and such. Mine moves on the Y plane and therefore I see those advantages of the Z-plane movement. Maybe if I had one of those I would find Y-plane advantages. But as far as actual printability, I don't think it matters at all.
