I wish I could find the article, but Google, themselves, published numbers about the number of malicious installs. It was in the neighborhood of 1 per 1,000,000 app installs. This also includes apps outside of the Play Store as Scott John Harrison said. This was also covered on All About Android a while back by Jason Howell in the news.
