G+_George Kozi
Easteregging Originally shared by George Kozi Not so long ago, when a serious software package or operating system came on the market, there were books upon books written about it. Somebody always clearly told you, "this is what you can do, and here is how you do it" . These days, there is a lot of easteregging and stealth functionality all over the place. There has been a clear move away from the user guide. Why is that?
G+_A.J. Bobo
I can think of two reasons that software companies are moving away from printed user manuals: 1) They are really, really hard to maintain and keep up-to-date. This is particularly true if you release updates to your software frequently. 2) Very few readers actually take the time to read the manual, anyway. There's always the case of a 3rd party author writing a book about the software, but unless they are working directly with the developer, their work will probably be outdated by the time the book hits the shelves.
