G+_George Kozi
Leo Laporte Lisa Kentzell Something Leo said recently got me thinking... "that show had xk downloads". He was talking about how successful the photo show was. I wonder if that way of measuring is relevant today. It certainly was when TWIT was a podcast collection, but it isn't anymore. Over the years, TWiT has slowly moved from what it was, to being a Internet TV station that has downloading as an option. I watch a ton of shows each week, and all of them live. Nothing ever gets downloaded.
G+_Lee Stoneman
I'm the opposite. I watch a ton but rarely anything live - traditional broadcast or online media. I have a feeling that of the two of us, you're the minority...
G+_Adam Torborg
I think if the number of people watching live were a significant portion Leo would mention it. I imagine the download number is orders of magnitude higher than the live viewers. I would imagine Leo understands the values of his network from a viewer's and an advertiser's perspective pretty well.
G+_ranTrek
I agree with Adam Torborg, most viewers of TWiT show actually download then to watch later. I for one rarely watch the live shows, I just don't have a large block of free time to be strapped to my computer during normal business hours... G+_George Kozi
I'd rather watch "how the sausage is made" on TWIT than traditional TV.
G+_Tom Wisniewski
I think Leo says that majority are just audio listeners. Though maybe that was just for security now.
G+_Fred Weimer
I download #Twit shows via audio. I watch highlights on YouTube and occassionly live.
G+_Christopher Copping
I guess I am in the super minority then, because I watch what I can live, and download the shows when I can't. Though to me that is the beauty of TWiT. There is a great sense of personal involvement when you watch live, but there is never an actual need to watch any TWiT show live. (like traditional media has been for many years). Just my two cents, but I feel that giving your audience an opportunity to watch live and also give them free access to archived shows is the best way of doing business. G+_Brian Gilbert (Ned Jaco
They track the live numbers as well as the download numbers. You're not ignored, but the downloading audience is much larger than the live-watching audience so it's shorthand to just refer to downloads. G+_George Kozi
That makes sense. So.... TWiT - Internet New Media Productions, live and on demand.
G+_Roland Jay Roberts
With my schedule, I'm usually sleeping when they are live. I will occasionally watch shows live when I can, but usually download the video netcasts later.
G+_Dory Goldberger
TnT airs live at a perfect time for me to catch live most days (east coast) I like the banter pre-post show as much as some of the shows. For some shows if I miss them I catch them in reruns. However there are times when I miss a show and just don't always have the time or desire to go back and download it. G+_ranTrek
Robert Warner Many times I'll listen to the audio while I'm driving but with the over saturation of the same topic I've trimmed down my actual watching to MBW, iPT and sometimes the sunday TWiT show but that depends on who is on. G+_ranTrek
Dory Goldberger I've tried to watch tnt on a regular basis but I really don't like the other co-hosts. Merritt has the dynamic energy and drive that makes the current format work. I'm expecting the new format to be less dynamic and slower. This may work, I'll watch a few episodes and see... G+_Dory Goldberger
Sorry I should have been clearer TNT is the first show of the day and the current schedule has other shows I watch right after so it is now uncommon when I am working (from home) for twit to be streaming all day. I did not intend to take the thread off topic. I don't think TNT was meant to be the focus of this thread.
G+_Wade Watson
I believe you'd do TWIT a service if you went ahead and downloaded the MP3 files of the shows you watch live. As I understood it once when Leo explained this, downloads are counted to show advertisers, while they don't have the live feed set up for this (or at least they didn't at the time). I seldom watch live, but often catch the YouTube versions, so I later download the MP3 audio just as sort of a virtual payment.
G+_David Storms
I like to watch live for the chance to interact in the chat rooms but it's just not possible to get the time. One of the reasons I cut the cord on satellite was that I no longer wanted to be beholden to their schedule. Watch when I want. Almost all the twit content for me is the audio download. G+_Ingimar Isenfors
I have my RSS app download all TWIT shows. Then I pick and chose what I want to listen to, and discard the rest.
G+_Ted McFadden
Downloader only, here. TWiT wouldn't be in my life at all without the downloadable "net casts." I have an excessively long commute (min 2 hours round trip, usually more) and the friendly, informative programming keeps me sane. I work a 9-5 EST and could never catch the shows live.
