G+_Frank Lord (Frankdatank
Fellow kitas, I'm trying to finally cut the cable and I was wanting some input from fellow know howers on the best way to do that. I'm thinking an Android TV box that supports cable streaming or the hd hometv tuner I have a pass for Plex and a PC I'm using as a media server but want to pick your brains for best solution. G+_Jason Brown
We cut the cord back when Hulu first came online, when it was still free. Haven't regretted at all. I've tried several solutions, but a PC was always best for us. It gives you every available option. The micro PC market has really blown up. We use an HP stream mini, but I wish we got something with some real drive space so updates don't fail when the drive fills.
G+_Juscelino Acevedo
I know that I may get crucified for this, but I have been desperately trying to figure out a way to cut the cord and it seems that the prices on these services are the equivalent of my cable company by the time that I pay for the different packages of the channels that I need. As a very brief example, I have to get both the $20.00 and $25.00 services on Sling just to get Nick and Disney Channel. PlayStation Vue does not even offer Nick or Lifetime. The point is that it is too much mixing and matching at this point. The convenience is gone and we are back to cable company status. #JustMyTwoCents
G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
Juscelino Acevedo I agree... I've been wanting to cut the cord for a while, but either the services with the channels I want are too expensive, or apps that are on AppleTV or other boxes require you to have a cable subscription. And I am a big sports fan of teams in my area. If I use the NHL or MLB apps my teams get blacked out, so what's the point? they have you by the "you know what" no matter what you do... G+_Ken Curtis
I cut the cord a few years ago. I like a single interface for all my tv and local media so I installed Mediaportal and now Kodi with hd home run as the tuners. Connected to an old school antenna that gives me 21 local channels. As others have stated you have to know what channels you can live without or can get streaming
G+_Jason Hammond
My wife and I cut the cord about 7 months ago. We bought a roku TV. The only local channel we ever really watched was cw, so we just have the cw app and watch the shows there. We use Netflix and Hulu just for older shows. We have PlayStation vue and use the basic package as the channelsbwe watch are there (destination america, BBC america, and Disney XD). We buy are movies on vudu which cuts out the need for the movie channels. Overall, we have been more than Happy with the choice. This has been a good solution for us. It just depends on what you like and are willing to cut out.
G+_Jason Brown
It definitely depends on your needs. We get by with just Hulu and Netflix. Everything we watch is provided, so we've probably saved a couple thousand after all these years.
G+_Jason Brown
I haven't looked at it yet, but YouTube is starting a live tv service that offers dvr, for $35. I have yet to work out the details, but it offers a lot more channels than Hulu, for sure.
G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
Jason Brown But service areas are very limited at this point. From what I've heard though, it's pretty good.
