G+_Gary Cheney
I received a raspberry pi 2 for Christmas, yea, only problem is I can't get sounds through hdmi.

G+_610GARAGE
Have you looked at this: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/audio-config.md You need to tell the pi to send audio out of hdmi. If you don't, it will use the analog output.
G+_Gary Cheney
Yes, I tried but still no luck, the weird thing is that I have no sound through analog output either.
G+_610GARAGE
sounds like.... that was unintentional, it's configured to a nonexistent device. But how to check/change that, I am unsure.
G+_Gary Cheney
Apparently this is not a new problem, the only thing that is weird is the noobs insert at the end of the configuration file. I am unsure of the control character ^m which proceeds and follows the noobs insert.
G+_Gary Cheney
I am not a programmer and the last time I had to write configuration files was in the 1980's

G+_David Dunn (tanker405th
Out of curiosity, have you ran update and upgrade? I remember having the same problem with my model B+ when I first got it. Seems like I ended up having to install alsa-utils, but it has been quite a while (memory is a little fuzzy!). G+_David Dunn (tanker405th
That's strange. Maybe someone with a Pi 2 can take a look at their config file for comparison, or maybe it's really defective?
G+_Gary Cheney
I am hoping someone else is having the same issue, I did get a replacement under warranty, same thing, but at least audio through jack.

G+_Gary Cheney
I think I finally figured it out. I was watching twit.tv on the computer which uses the same tv as a secondary monitor, the sound of the show was coming through the hdmi input I was using for the raspberry pi 2. I believe that the tv is seeing the raspberry pi 2 as a computer input (which it is ) instead of a video input which is causing the audio to be channeled to computer input which is analog. I will continue to try to find a workaround. Thanks to all for the input.
