Great episode on switches! When you next discuss switches/networking, can you please go over link aggregation? Some Synology NAS have dual Gigabit NIC ports and will allow for link aggregation (802.1ax or 802.3ad). You would need a special switch that supports link aggregation correct? The standard combo router/switch don't generally support that?

Peter Hanse Thanks for the info. So for my understanding then; if you team the two gigabit ports on the Synology are you getting 2Gbps performance traffic in and out each way to the NAS? But the other devices reading/writing to the NAS will need to be connected to that managed switch? If those devices are connected by only one cable then they're limited to 1Gbps max? So the bottle neck is there? Link aggregation then is really more useful for handling more devices rather than better throughput to an individual device? Not sure if that's the correct logic or not.

Yes it is for handling multi clients. Comes in handy when you are doing backup across network. I am sure it also comes in handy for using synology high avalibility. So when setup you have a live backup by setting up 2nd synology into high avalibility. I have multi buildings and want to setup 2nd synology in high avalibility for disaster recovery.
