G+_George Kozi
It should be technically possible, shouldn't it? Your phone has it... Originally shared by George Kozi Why doesn't every single firearm sold have a hidden, non tamperable, passive transponder, built in the hardware itself? G+_George Kozi
not necessarily... look at those antena things they put inside security labels in clothing stores. or some mechanism that uses the recoil movement to produce a small amount of current... G+_andrew Guthrie
Well tamperprof doesn't really exist so any one that tried could just disabled it. (ie overload the circuits on any rfid, or remove the power supply). So responsible gun owners would have it and criminals would not, defeating the whole purpose. Then what is the reason for having this? Metal detectors are pretty dang effective for controlled access areas. So what are you trying to prevent? And what about the hundreds of thousands of firearms out there now? Any laws could only be effective on new firearms so would not even be relevant for decades. And of course the librarys and 2nd amendment issue. Manly why? What does this solve?
G+_George Kozi
It just seems weird to me that today we can, and do track every mobile phone, but not every firearm. It could be a useful tool in law enforcement and forensics. Imagine a Police officer scanning a room and finding the murder weapon hidden behind the false wall... or doing a scan and being lead to that bush in the garden where the gun was disposed of. G+_George Kozi
as for the second amendment... no issue whatsoever. This is about identification, just like the serial number is now.

G+_George Kozi
I have never before been accused of being "standard". :) There is a way to turn all this unfortunate thing into something auspicious Matt Lyons, when you see my picture at the start of the post, skip it.
