G+_George Kozi
Just wondering... Originally shared by George Kozi Why doesn't every street light have a micro wind generator on it?
G+_George Kozi
to start with, yes, but if there is a surplus... A street light is perfect for a vertical axes mini turbine, placed above the lighting element... and the whole thing is already connected to the grid.... and there is space to place electronics or batteries. Those poles are hollow...
G+_John Nichol
Or how about small vertical axis turbines down the centre of the highway/motorway, getting both the wind and the slipstream from passing cars?
G+_George Kozi
exactely. Here in Holland all the highways are illuminated... they all have streetlights over the almost entire length.
G+_Phillip Meadows
This is a good idea. It only really has to reduce the cost of the light it's on by the price of purchase and installation. That won't take long in most places. After that it's all savings. Here in America they would have the extra burden of being targets for gun-toting miscreants. G+_Mikel Potts
Phillip Meadows Purchase, installation, and maintenance. Moving parts break. I'd guess that is the reason you'll find solar an not wind add-ons, when there is anything at all.
