G+_Phorest Sherwood
I am hoping y'all can help me. I want to get a flight controller for my 450 build that is expendable. I would like to add gps, ensure stable flight (for photo & video) be capable of FPV, and also return to home capabilities. I also want to be able to program in stable flight. In other words, have it hover at a predetermined height and orientation for video. Finally, I would like to also make it follow a specific path with waypoints. I know, I am looking for a bunch, but this would be a really cool quad!
G+_Eddie Foy
PixHawk / PX4 is what you want. Can spin on position, do a circle, change height, point cam, way points, RTH, etc, etc. Install the APM software and take a peek. http://copter.ardupilot.com/
G+_Eddie Foy
A nice mode it has is, if you lose orientation you can switch to 'simple mode' where no matter which way its pointed, the sticks work it as it was when it took off. If it was facing north at take off, if you move the stick to the right, it moves east no matter how its pointed.
G+_Phorest Sherwood
I just looked at the website, very cool. Where can I get it?
G+_Eddie Foy
Same site and ebay. I think I paid about $230 for the Flight controller, GPS/Compass combo, power monitor, telemetry set up. ebay: http://tinyurl.com/kcbtzn5
G+_Steve C
The PX4 is great but it's weakness is having to depend on the crappy open source software that you have to use to set it up with your laptop. Pixhawk, who makes it recommended Qgroundcontrol and 3DRobotics that sells it recommended Mission Planner and APM Planner but when I tried mine the middle of last year NONE of the shareware for it would work! Qgroundcontrol wouldn't run at all, Mission Planner would run on the laptop but couldn't configure the PX4 as a copter or anything else but a plane and APM Planner couldn't configure it for anything at all. After months of work they have since fixed Qgroundcontrol and it works pretty well now but the people in charge of Mission Planner and APM Planner refuse to fix them so they still won't work with my PX4. G+_Eddie Foy
APM Planner 2.0 connected and configured my HexCopter no prob. Flight modes switching appears to work. I haven't had the weather yet to test out the wayppoints/mission planner aspect.
G+_Steve C
3D Robotics has released their own software called the Tower (DroidPlanner 3) App for Android. Has anyone tried that yet?
