G+_Nelson Jesudas
Has anyone here played with OpenHab, Hass.io, or any of the other open home automation servers? I'm looking to start, but all seem more text file oriented than I was hoping for. http://Hass.io
G+_Ben Reese
I played with it very briefly along with Mosquito. I'll probably look into OpenHAB more later, but had the same initial reaction as you. Being manual config files probably makes it more expandable, but I'd love to see more Gui-oriented configuration.
G+_Rajarajan Rajamani
I use Domoticz for automation of lights and motion based sensors - all using zwave. No scripts/config files to be done manually.
G+_Nelson Jesudas
Thanks guys! I looked at Domoticz briefly; it didn't seem as widely used and I'm not sure if it supported the smart plugs I bought. I'll investigate that further.
G+_Victor Nellissen
I'm running hass.io for a while now. No problems so far. You need to get used to yamel configuration, once you know where to add spaces configuring becomes easy.
G+_Tom Silk
I've been running Hass.io for about 6 months now. I've been using computers since the late 1970's, so to me, the text files weren't daunting. Just had to get used to the syntax of the yamel files. Mostly, you're just copying the needed configuration from a web page and pasting it in the appropriate spot in the file, then customizing the settings to suit your devices, so it's not as hard as it looks. G+_rick rangel
I have used both. I flashed several of my own devices with TASMOTA and started with OpenHAB to control them. I also tried ESPeasy but found TASMOTA easier and more feature rich. While OpenHAB is very capable, I wanted to give Home Assistant a fair shake. In the end I found both OpenHAB and Home Assistant capable but give the nod to Home Assistant (HA). My reasoning is that HA is a bit more standardized in that it uses YAML. Either way you go you can find ample resources on the internet for help.
