G+_Gehric Barreau
Can anyone tell how to migrate files and programs like windows easy transfer wizard from an old windows 7 laptop to a new windows 10 laptop, as you all aware that Microsoft has removed this beautiful little program , I need to keep everything identical to the windows 7 laptop
G+_Ben Reese
I don't know of any automated tools. Last time I reinstalled windows, I did clean installs of all the programs (takes a little time, but worth it) then manually copied the application folders over from my appdata folder. That restored probably 90% of what I needed. Most of the applications I use can be installed from Ninite.com - worth checking out if you haven't already. G+_Eddie Foy
Clean install, install apps clean, then copy over data is usually the best way not to bring over the cruft of an old system. Personal tweaks are usually the big bugger for me. Why does it have to be identical? Is it for someone else you rather not do follow up support for? (I can understand that completely )
G+_Gehric Barreau
The main reason that it has to be identical is that certain software that is used the installation files can not be found
G+_Eric K
If you're willing to pay, I've used PCMover from Laplink with some success. It will tell you what software will successfully transfer prior to running the actual transfer job.
G+_Gehric Barreau
Looks like that's the only option i can find, unless there is a modified version of the Microsoft Easy Transfer wizard that can be made to work with win10
G+_Ben Reese
A bit more work, but perhaps clone the drive then upgrade to Win10? I understand the software without installer issue... Makes for a real pain. You can try copying the folder over from Program Files, Appdata, etc; but there's often DLLs missing too. Depending on the software, you might be able to contact the developer and get an installer if you can prove you have the license.
G+_Ben Reese
Oh, if you have space, there's a Disk2VHD utility that will convert your existing Win7 drive to a Virtual Hard Disk. That can be used in a VM on your new Win10 machine... That might be too complicated too, though.
G+_Eddie Foy
Ben Reese good idea. I've used that trick to break the limit placed by coppon.com
G+_Tony Martin
Check out easeus todo pctrans, it is $60 but I think it will do what you want. They do offer a free trial but I am unsure of how much functionality is given in the free trial.
