G+_Alex Martinez
Looking for suggestions which would be a good nas . I need something where i can stream movies and back up all my data too but i really wanted to add security cameras to record to it. I'm leaning to synology but im not totally sure if the DS1515+ would be best since i add up to 16 gigs or ram or the DS916+. The Ds1515+ is almost 2 years old and not sure if they r planning a refresh and the DS916+ looks newer but down 1 bay. If anyone has any other suggestions or has experience with them i would appreciate it!
G+_Shawn Ashe
Love my DS1515. Couple terabytes of movies/tvshows I've ripped.. ds video apps on the smart tvs and android tablets allow me to watch from remote vacation home. DSM has lots of additional packages (bug tracking, docker, vms, redmine, wordpress, etc)
G+_Benjamin Webb
Most flexible and reliable is freenas if you pick the parts right but also probably the hardest to configure for advanced feature. Then again not everyone is going compile their own jail for a MythTV install like me.
G+_Jason Perry
Love my Synology NAS, I haven't really sat down and compared the models but my advice is to know your budget and get as much NAS as you can. It's not an easy decision. You can below a lot of money purchasing a NAS, but on the flip side if you under purchase you will want to upgrade a few years down the road. synology.com - Compare Products - Products | Synology Inc. G+_Alex Martinez
Yea i looked into freenas in fact been messing with it on a virtual machine only problem is i really want security cameras that throw the feed into the nas and synology seems like they have a good thing on that. Im glad to hear the ones that bought a synology love it. Thanks jason thats actually good advice I really want it to last a good bit if imma pay around 600 just for the nas it self. Only thing i heard is that 4k streaming the older nas have a hard time with those but im not to sure when i ever would start streaming something like that
G+_Alex Martinez
What Synology Nas are you all running?
G+_Jason Perry
I am running the DS214play. It works great, I love the environment, but I wish I didn't let my frugal nature get to me. I am limited to the capacity of one drive since the other is redundancy. I am completely off cloud services because of it.
