G+_Alex Martinez
Hi everyone i just wanted to see if you all know a better way how i should be using my Synology to back up and access my files. Before I always had my important data on a big drive on my main computer but since i gotten my Synology I started backing up to it. The thing is that I like accessing the files through the Synology from any computers now but im accessing the backup from the main computer.I actually would like to change stuff around like add new pictures, movies, music. etc. but it wouldn't make any sense messing with a backup. So im a little confused how i should do this.
G+_Akira Yamanita
Well the simple solution is to get a second one as the backup... lol. You could consider using the Cloud Station Drive to keep them in sync, but then it's not a backup anymore. However, you could then get by with a cheaper backup target to backup the main computer. On a side note, I would suggest an offline backup or offsite backup as well. There's malware that will search the network so if the backups are accessible and writable from the same computer or computers that you're backing up, the backups themselves are at risk. G+_Giligain I.
I had a job where the backups were performed daily but on different drives for each day. And then there were the tape backups that were done either weekly or monthly. There was one time when the server crashed hard and come to fine out that the daily backups and were not being done...for a long time. The only backup recovered was from (3) weeks ago. It was a strange next few weeks trying to play catchup to project deadlines for clients. Especially weird was having to remember and repeat all the Acad drawings created during that time lost. #goodtimes
