G+_Rob O.
Hi Guys, New to your community actually discovered you guys on ROKU. So, question. I have a WD external HD. Would like to know if or how to decrypt it. Or another idea, would I be able to transfer all the data remove the encryption board and put it in a different enclosure. Would I be able to use it as a plug and play external HD? Would appreciate any input. Thanks
G+_Travis Hershberger
That depends on how it was encrypted in the first place. If it was done with software you could just copy all the data and reformat the drive. If it was done with some sort of hardware based encryption, then it just depends. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Yup... Travis Hershberger nailed it. We can't tell you how to decrypt the drive until you tell us how it was encrypted. Was it software? TrueCrypt? Hardware using TPM? What do you mean by "encryption board?" We can definitely help you, but the more information you give us, the better equipped we are to figure out what's the best/easiest way to do it. :) And welcome to the community! -- It's a fun place... pizza on Tuesdays. G+_Rob O.
Hi, everyone thanks for the reply's its the Controller Western Digital My Book 4060-705059-001 where you connect, the USB port is attached to a control board that I had to replace when it failed. This control board encrypts the data. Would I be able to empty the hard drive, remove the board and use it as any other hard drive. Thanks again.
