G+_Asterysk
Have I missed the Spinrite build that was promised a while back ? If not is there any chance of finding out the machine specs.
G+_Rud Dog
Guess it is rather difficult to get communications with Steve beings he is so busy but the results speak for them self's. I too await the update for Spinrite and SQRL.
G+_Brian Moses
grc.com - GRC | SpinRite 6.0 FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions SpinRite can run on any PC compatible system with a 32 or 64-bit Intel or AMD processor and a color screen. The previous SpinRite v5.0 is available to v6.0 owners who need to run SpinRite on older 16-bit 8086/80286 systems and/or monochrome screens. G+_Asterysk
Hi Brian, I'm looking for the cheapest way of building a compatible PC (ideally one that can run the SATA drives at max speed), do you have any suggestions. I'm thinking a micro computer (mini ATX) or NUC but the issue is the sata connectivity on the NUC
G+_Ben Reese
Asterysk probably the cheapest solution is an 8 year old PC off Craigslist. I'm seeing Optiplex 760 for $50. Install a hot-swap drive bay and you're off to the races!
G+_Asterysk
Hi Ben, thank you for the suggestion. I need about 20 of these machines because of the number of HD's I need to process and the old PC's take up too much space plus have slow HD access speeds making a 2TB level 2 take an eternity. What I'm looking for is a physically small , low power consumption computer that has SATA 3 and a CPU / RAM arrangement that can run the drive controller at maximum speed. When I looked into NUC's I couldn't find any that had the full SATA 3. I can get eSATA but not sure if Spinrite will find the drive and how fast it will be. G+_Bob Carpenter
There's another thread from another user Asterysk here that talks about virtualizing instances of it. Could you maybe run four (or how every many controllerrs you have) virtualized instances on one box? Save some cost and bench space.
