Your latest show has made me reconfigure my home network

Your latest show has made me reconfigure my home network. I only wanted "trusted" items on the network. I set a small DHCP range and configured each item to a reserved IP address within that range. Each IP was reserved. You have indicated that I should set my reserved IP addresses to be outside of that small DHCP range. That is correct, yes? So, I should then reduce my DHCP range to virtually one/two addresses? Basically, I only want my known systems to have access to the network. I do not want outsiders. Is my setup now correct, or would my original setup work similarly? Thanks.

If every device on your network has a reserved IP, you're probably fine. But it would still be best to have these outside of your DHCP range so the next new connection doesn't accidentally knock off another device.

My opinion...

Nothing connects to my network without me knowing - either by me giving the password or plugging it into the switch.

But important stuff on my network shouldn't be left vulnerable. Keep it secure enough that if the neighbor teen somehow did guess my password, he couldn't also access my NAS. Or if Spectrum comes in to troubleshoot a connectivity issue and plugged my switch into the cable modem... Yes, I had a tech recommend that.

So, I've got reservations for everything known on my network. But I'm not too worried about my wife giving her mom the Wi-Fi password.
