G+_Craig Roberts-Thomson (
I have been looking at mobile/travel VPN solutions like Tiny Hardware Firewall (http://www.tinyhardwarefirewall.com/) and BlckHoleCloud (https://blackholecloud.com/). I have a Synology at home and so could use the Synology VPN. Which would be more secure? More reliable? I guess if I am away for a while and my Syno goes down I might lose access, which is less likely when using a paid service. But then if I go to Hong Kong and China my Syno is less likely to be blocked. And on a public WiFi how much of a risk is connecting my iPhone to it when initiating a VPN connection? Would disintermediating using the Tiny Hardware Firewall be more secure? Thanks for any thoughts. http://www.tinyhardwarefirewall.com/
G+_Jason Marsh
You've got a Synology, so I'd recommend that route. And on VPN initiation; set it up, set it as the default connection, and don't worry about it. Just make sure it's working before you travel.
