G+_Martin Kirov
Hi everyone! I love the show and I wanted to post something for a long time, but don't have the expertise to answer questions on here... I have a confusing situation and I figured its not only an opportunity to finally post something, but also I can get help. I wanted to order a new Macbook Pro w/ Retina.I am pretty much set on 16GB of RAM (one can never have too much RAM,right lol) and I do not need more than 256GB of SSD. So I am starting with the middle SKU boost the RAM to 16 GB and leaving the SSD alone.( I did some research and the 13" comes w/ 3 flavors of processor: A 2.4GHz i5-4258U, a 2.6GHz i5-4288U and a 2.8GHz i7-4558U). It is pretty much a given I will go for at least the middle 2.6GHz i5-4288U since it boosts the Iris graphics by 100MHz for $100 (no brainer). What I am not sure is if it is worth the $200 premium for the 2.8GHz i7-4558U which only gives me 1MB cache over the 4288U and the obvious 0.2GHz. I know it is a tough question to answer since it depends on the person who uses the computer, but if anyone can help me with understanding why 4MB cache is better than 3MB cache I will be grateful. And I know that 4MB is just better than 3MB for al the trolls out there :) lol I guess its more of a Patrick Norton question since he is carrying an MB Air and Fr. Robert said in a show he is a PC guy, but I thought someone might have an answer for me. Thanks everyone. Wooohoooo my first post here it goes
G+_Pablo Oria
It's for caching to the proc. If you are not going to run lots of programs simultaneously, you probably won't notice much difference... but like you said, it depends on what you will do with the mac.
