G+_Eric Kelling
I have a question, I am not sure if this has been answered yet. I am the go-to guy for my family when it comes to computers or tech. Recently, I have to decided to move to a new area for work. However, they still want me to work on their computers and routers. So my question is what is the best and cheapest remote desktop application that I can load onto their and my computer to allow me to work on their computers should I need to help them or troubleshoot? G+_Emil Chetty
Team viewer is a god sent for my mum - can take full control of her pc when shit goes funky - seems to work for the most part - just install it on her PC before you leave. Cause that can be tricky but otherwise it's really simple to engage. And it's free =)
G+_Aaron Freeman
Yes TeamViewer... Emil is correct. Just be aware that free version has a time limitation, SO you will get kicked off after a certain amount of time.. But then just reconnect.. Annoying a bit... but free is great. G+_Aaron Freeman
Also if you want a fun little project buy a raspberryPi and setup ssh at the location you are supporting.. You can RDP over ssh to the PC's there.. Again this is just for fun and learning about SSH...
G+_Akira Yamanita
Chrome Remote Desktop is another free choice.
G+_Travis Hershberger
Beware of the free offerings. Every one that I've seen is for personal use only, so not supposed to use them in a business environment. That said, I use Remote Utilities.
G+_Roy Gangle
I thought Windows had a built in remote feature. I'm sure it does because Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ showed how to disable it to speed up our computers.
G+_Travis Hershberger
By default the service is running, but remote access is not enabled.
G+_Aaron Freeman
There is a big difference between Team viewer like products, Remote Desktop, and Remote assistance. TeamViewer like products pass through firewalls/home router with out any special configuration, beyond installing product. Remote Desptop you need hole in firewall (not recommended at all, that is why I suggested Raspberry pi over ssh... ssh i bit more secure as long as it is done right) Remote assistance is what Fr. Robert recommended turning off,, If I recall right this is used in corporate setting to support users and or what MSN chat client used to connect.. Never used so do not quote me on that. G+_Tom Apalenek
I've used TeamViewer to support remote friends. The other nice thing about it is even if it isn't pre-installed on their computer you can walk somebody who is barely computer literate through going to the TeamViewer website, downloading it and installing it. Then they just give you a session passcode that it displays and you can remote in to their computer. As someone else said, it's free for personal use. So if you're just helping friends and family you are fine. You are trusting the TeamViewer servers because your initial connection goes through them. But they sell it for lots of corporate remote support and they seem to be very reputable, so I don't believe you need to worry about them.

G+_robert baker
Team viewer will also let you transfer files Inside the program from your computer to the target PC . Just select "file transfer" when you connect.?
