G+_George Kozi
Passing thought. Affordable commercial spaceflight will be a reality soon. So... let's put two concepts together: 1) zero gravity 2) surgery. Intriguing isn't it... I wonder if surgery performed in orbit would allow us to do what we today can't do down here. G+_Elizabeth Whitmire
But if they're doing surgery in zero G, there would be lots of blood flying around... How would they stop that? Sometimes gravity is a good thing.
G+_George Kozi
I don't know, but I'm sure there is a way we haven't thought of yet. All this is something that would have to be explored. Zero gravity may allow you to reach parts of the body where now we can't reach because things are stacked and sensitive.
G+_Dave Trautman
If you ever get a chance to observe a real surgical procedure you'll be amazed at how bloodless they are these days. The newest techniques border on being "non invasive" in the extreme. Unfortunately weightlessness would have had no beneficial advantage for the two surgeries I have had done to me. I don't thing Gravity contributes very much to the challenges of human surgery, but as you say, there may be something there we haven't come across yet. G+_Aubrey Green
Unfortunately, to get to no gravity you have to go through lots of gravity. I guess it would be OK if you were well enough to get up there. Most critical patients wouldn't be able to survive the flight.
