G+_Frederick Holtsberg
So I am new to the Lipo world. I purchased two Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 25C Lipo batteries from Hobby King in April. I started using them in May for my Alien X Quad build. The first battery swelled and caught fire the first time I charged it. Talk about baptism by fire. Anyway I chatted with Hobby King and thought they would replace it but they said it was "out of warranty". Fast forward one month the second battery started to swell when I charged it but at least this time the charger never started to charge it and showed an error. It was only about the 7th time I had charged it. Of course Hobby King will not replace that one either . So two questions. Is this a normal experience using Lipo batteries? Also I am really turned off by Hobby King now and do not plan to purchase anything else from them. Is this how they treat all their customers? ? G+_Eddie Foy
Not usual under normal circumstances. Could be your charger. Doing a blaance charge? Use a lower charging rate then data sheet suggests (they like to bump it up for sales) I'd say cut it back 10-25% They weren't physically damaged in a crash or other mishap? G+_Frederick Holtsberg
So I am using an imax B6 at normal charge. The first battery was never used. When I was setting up the quad copter settings it was acting funny and when I put it on the charger is was only at 8V, so I charged it. Within about 30 mins it was hissing at me then caught fire. The second battery does not show any sign of physical damage, even though I have had a few crashes with the copter (mostly getting stuck in trees). I noticed when I removed it from the frame of the copter it was already a little swollen.
G+_Frederick Holtsberg
Eddie Foy Should I even try to charge it when it is swollen?
G+_Eddie Foy
No don't try to charge a swollen battier. Now if you are feeling adventurous, and not afraid of possible burns and chemical burns, it might be possible to make one battery out of the 2. Swapping out the swollen cells. I don't recommend it unless you know exactly what you are getting into, and have the correct fire extinguisher at the ready :P Did I convey its potentially dangerous? :P

G+_Frederick Holtsberg
Wayne Hobbins it does not have the "East Vita" or the "SKYRC". No hologram on the back. Just a QC sticker. I think I have a counterfeit. Where is a good place to purchase a genuine one.
G+_Joshua Delaughter
Glad I saw this now. I'm still gathering my parts, and the charger I got was one of the knock offs. Going to return and get a real SkyRC one. Thanks guys!
G+_Jason Marsh
Wow! I've beaten the snot out of my syma, and almost all the batteries are somewhat "irregular" in shape, but no fires yet. I've crashed hard enough that the battery came out of the chassis and went for a solo flight of it's own. Guess I'll count my blessings and keep fingers crossed, because I'm too cheap to replace them. I guess I'll start charging them outdoors :) Frederick Holtsberg That's the problem with finding great deals on stuff. Until you learn, as you have with this instance, you don't have the requisite rules in your BS filter to recognize a knock-off until it's too late. Lucky for you, though, you've only lost a little cash spent on the charger and a few batteries. Still got your house, all your fingers and toes, etc. Count yourself lucky and reboot your BS filter to include the newly-downloaded signatures. G+_Frederick Holtsberg
Wayne Hobbins so I bought another on Amazon that was supposed to be 100% original. Got it in and it was an OEM. I will return it and make sure I order the one from Micro Mall
