Twitter Music on Android

I could be missing something, but it looks like Twitter Music is another iOS first (only?) launch. Is that right?

This statement also seems a bit insulting...

"You can download Twitter #music from the App Store today, or enjoy the web version, which will be rolling out over the next few hours: music.twitter.com."

The App Store? As if there is the only one and that belonging to Apple?

If I've missed something, just slap me and I'll calm down. Or I'll just cut down on my caffeine intake. (No I won't...)

Apple's store is literally called The App Store. Google's is called Google Play. Amazon is the Amazon Appstore (one word, not two). Apple got there first, so they get the privilege of trademarking the name.

With that said, does anyone really care what app store gets this doofy twitter music "thing"?

Roy Hembree Right there with you.

James Dowmont I understand that on some level (legal, marketing, among the cool kids) Apple has "The App Store" locked down. We get it, but how many will?

The issue here isn't some legalistic debate or even necessarily a doofy Twitter music thing. It's about perception and the creation of confusion in the larger marketplace.

Does anyone really regularly refer to the Google store as "Google Play" in real life conversations? I typically call it "the app store" or "the store" or "the Google app store" depending on my audience. Similarly with the Apple store. It's all about context.

Twitter should be making sure that people understand that this is only available in app form to Apple customers. That story will be picked up by journalists and bloggers and rely on them to clarify. And as

Roy Hembree pointed out, that's just not likely to happen.

I hear you. To me Twitter is like a morbid curiosity. I have yet to find it useful but so many people rant and rave about it I feel I must be missing something. In all these years that has seldom been the case. I watched The Oscars this year with G+. We had a great time. I still don't like seeing Android users being disrespected by these major social companies.

Since you asked, yes, I do refer to Google's offering as the Play Store or Google Play and I usually refer to anything available through Amazon as being on Amazon's store. One good way to make sure people know the difference is for those of us that do know the difference to actually put said knowledge to good use. I actually find Google's naming convention quite refreshing, since I can just say "got it on Google Play" about anything that is on offer there. It's one App on my device for everything, which gives them a distinct advantage over Amazon and Apple, both of whom divide all their offerings into specific apps, depending on what you're after.
