G+_Michael Dombrowski
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ So I just finished watching the last episode and had a question about my setup with WD Red drives. I am running a Windows 8.1 Pro system with Storage Spaces to make it a NAS. I thought that I was doing the right thing by putting in Red drives, but was I wrong, since it is still a desktop operating system, only working like a NAS? I haven't noticed any issues and I do have the storage spaces set to duplicate files across drives, so I shouldn't lose any data. But nevertheless, what would your recommendation be? G+_John Mink
Michael Dombrowski the concern isn't what Operating System you're running, but whether the WD Red is in a RAID. The simple test is this question: "When (not if) this WD Red has a issue, can another drive pick up the slack?" As long as there's another drive, even another WD Red (cause statistics), to go" don't worry, I've got this" then a Red drive is the way to go. G+_Michael Dombrowski
I'm not entirely sure how windows storage spaces works, but I think it acts like a software raid. So I guess if one drive had an issue it would automatically recover.
G+_John Mink
Makes two of us, since I haven't fiddled with Storage Spaces myself. But hope someone else who's more on the windows side of things can answer!
