G+_George Kozi
I wonder how long it will be before someone says that all this is because Apple put NFC on its new phones...? Originally shared by Android Central EE has today announced that the mobile operator's Cash on Tap app will connect with card readers on the London Underground, using NFC on supporting smartphones. G+_Mikel Potts
That all the NFC stuff is being added? No. But Apple adding Apple Pay to their phones probably is why NFC is suddenly front-ish page newsworthy again. NFC will be 'new' again, for a week or two. G+_George Kozi
Companies have been working on NFC implementation for years. Stuff like feasibility studies, hardware, procedures, decisions to implement and deployment have been made a long time ago. This stuff doesn't just materialize overnight. G+_Jack Zhang
In Vancouver, the Compass Card is NFC based since it always makes my Nexus 4 react when I tap the card on the back. That system is still not 100% operational, and only seniors and persons on a bus pass program are using the cards with non-functioning gate systems. G+_George Kozi
We have the OV Chipcard implemented in the Netherlands... the entire country... and for all public transport, bus, train, metro. It's NFC. Even our new bank cards have it, and in a few months I will be able to pay for groceries at the supermarket just by waving my card across the checkout. G+_Phil Chung
I think the London plan for smartphone apps has been in planning for a while. Here in Australia, PayWave / PayPass is pretty widespread and I've been using tap and pay for ages using my debit card. I can't see having it on my phone or watch being any more convenient.
