Okay Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ I have a Neptune Systems Apex Aquarium Controller and one of the nicest features was email and text message alerts which I can no longer setup due to the requirement of an smtp server that DOES NOT use SSL. So there was a time I could use Google's smtp server but it's looking like Google isn't going to let that happen (can't even email something to myself) Do you know a way to use a free smtp server that doesn't need another account with user login and password requirements and does not use SSL? The last thing I need is ANOTHER account with setting up a full user profile, login, and password configuration because "like I don't already have enough accounts I need to keep track of".

Well as it turns out this system of products has moved to linking the devices to an online account they call Apex Fusion Which obviously has pro and bad security cons and also has an alert to mobile or email. Again a huge flaw if one of their servers go down customers would not be notified if there's a problem I would still like to know if there's something wrong in my system before it cost over $10,000 in loss. So if the software on the Apex device still has the capability then I want to use both so the Apex aquarium controller miles a head in IoT before IoT was a thing going all the way back to 1996, requires a smtp service that does not use ssl and then a from address being an account within the service, setting the smtp port, a to account like your email and alternative address like phone#@vzwpixdotcom and email authentication and the user name and password of the account within the smtp service provider I don't know if I can work something with my printer with the device configuration to setup smtp email and text alerts when a problem happens especially with salt water where things can happen fast for example ato failure combined with a leak from plumbing means a flooded floor and the salinity dropping too low killing livestock and so getting various modules that could for example flow monitoring, salinity, leak detectors and one to control a solenoid valve feeding the ato (sorry automatic top off) that replaces the water loss due to evaporation. If it's interesting to anyone about the controller or the hobby or what people over a decade into it have realized what it becomes, "An Addiction". I wish I could do prototyping with Neptune Systems the maker of this device, but they won't only release a source code for makers but won't even let anyone have or allow anyone to make available the telnet commands to run a diagnostic program built in that will lets simple commands fix most every problem of course I guess since you can hack and change firmware and software through telnet they won't exactly put that info in the OM, however the firmware and software are rock solid in preventing hacking any changes even through telnet closing options with an only use dns table for where any change to software and to the firmware can come in from and a few other coding in it's security that forces a complete firmware and software installation loosing data collected and communication to connected devices and becomes useless or bricked since without the modules the censors and actuators that the device works with and controls they really take security seriously.
