G+_Douglas Biggers
Has anyone cracked open a CC terminal pin pad(external keypad for entering a pin) like the First Data FD 10 to see how hackable it is? I have a project in mind where a pad similar to that could be combined with a mini thermal printer from Adafruit and either a Arduino or a Pi to track/print numbers called during bingo, but it's pretty much a no go unless I can find a suitable input device. G+_Robert Gauld
Why not just get a keypad from your normal parts supplier? Assuming the brains is a raspberry pi how about just getting a USB keypad (like https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B001CSAC1Q). I understand that arduinos can also use a USB device if that's your preference. ?
G+_Robert Gauld
Or even make an square of 100 buttons and have a button per number - one press per ball. Get illuminated buttons and you could even light the button when a number's already been called.
G+_Travis Hershberger
When I first started reading this, I couldn't help but think of http://krebsonsecurity.com/all-about-skimmers/. Anyhow, a Raspberri Pi with just about any usb 10-key keypad and either a block of LEDs, or just a display, should be able to do what you want. G+_Douglas Biggers
While the console currently in use is almost as old as I am(the PSU has a date of mid '84 on it), and the old copper in it is causing it to get, more... neurotic, I'm not looking to replace the console itself. Plans are already in place for that eventuality and it would look dubious in the eyes of the Dept of Revenue(tick off NOT the Tax Man. A bingo hall is not something you can hide in the woods like a whiskey still). This tracker would be to assist me, or possibly others, as the caller. The terminal pin pad, *WITH the LCD screen*, would be used for input/interface, the printer would be for printing numbers called, and tracking bingoed numbers for a side pot. If a CC terminal pin pad can be used(without completely rebuilding the guts), I could get a parts terminal+pin pad off of ebay(cheap, if any of the security measures have been triggered) for a compact, portable, and cosmetically matching casing. G+_Eddie Foy
Crack open a CC PoS terminal for hackables? Sorry but under advice of legal counsel, I can not comment.
G+_Douglas Biggers
Ok, so the cc terminal thing may or may not fly(in public, anyway...) Can anyone recommend something similar to http://store.genovation.com/mini-data-terminals/910.html without costing a LOT more than my non-existant budget can afford(and that's JUST for the keypad...) G+_Douglas Biggers
WOOT! I found a keypad that won't be mush in 6 months, and I can re-legend the keys! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-White-Keyboard-4x4-16-Keys-16Keys-Metal-Panel-SPST-Machine-Pushbutton-Switch/140380862639
