G+_Alex B
Ok. I am a little new to this world. I would like to set up an alarm to warn me when someone is coming up to my door. I am using a ultrasonic sensor. And an audrino. What else would I need
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
You need the device (light, buzzer, shaker, etc.) that will be triggered when the sensor conditions are met. You may want to pick up a WiFi or Ethernet shield so that you can use an IoT services like MyDevices Cayenne. (It would allow the arduino to send an alert to your phone... which is kinda cool.) :)

G+_David Peach
I have a PIR sensor at the door in my office that points down the hall. When someone gets a few feet away it triggers a light on my desk to warn me that someone is about to step in. There were a couple of months where I had to work with my back to the door and this kept me from getting surprised when someone slipped in quietly. Been meaning to do a write-up about it. Powered by an ATmega 328. If I did it again I would use an Arduino nano clone.
G+_Alex B
I am doing this because I get scared easly. So when someone tries to scare me by sneaking in my only quiet door I know when someone comes into my fd (front door) I won't nearly throw the solder at my desktop
G+_Alex B
I am also thinking of doing the phone notification. I hope it works with a Samsung Galaxy core prime
G+_Ben Reese
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ? - you seem really sold on the Cayenne system (and it seems pretty awesome). Is that next in line after the broadcasting series?
G+_Ben Reese
Also.... The new Pi Zero-W opens a lot of possibilities for IoT. It seems that may be a good place to start for this project - combined with a service like Cayenne or AutoRemote.
G+_J Miller
I think it was ultra sonic's that were used in the alarm business decades ago. They stopped using them for a reason. Motion detectors are prone to false alarms outdoors.

G+_Roy Z
If you just want notification like a buzzer, Harbor Freight sells a driveway alert device that has a motion detector unit and a separate receiver that operate over hundred feet or so: harborfreight.com - Search results for: 'driveway alert'
G+_Roy Z
Note the above device can be used as a trigger input to an arduino, etc to tie into the net as suggested by Fr. Robert. There are example hacks where people have used the led outputs on the receiver as inputs.
