I initially thought that we should still be aiming for signalling systems which make rail collisions almost impossible. We are nearly there. But the description of minor impacts did make sense. I have been on a standard bodied Bombardier Transportation class 170 which hit a goose at about 90 MPH. The goose faired much worse than the train, but the noise was surprising. I can see how if it had been a brick - ot similar, the driver could have been in serious trouble.Any additional protection has to be good.
