I was looking at the Zeny 852D soldering station that Padre talked about in episode 277, but after reading reviews I was pretty hesitant to buy one.

I found the Pro-Tech 853D SMD DC Power 3in1 Hot Air Iron Gun Rework Soldering Station on the Walmart site for $64.00. It looks exactly like the Zeny 853D (which is $89.00 on Amazon), and with Walmart you can get a 2 year warranty for $6.00. So i figured this was worth the risk.

Anyone else looking at buying the soldering station?

I purchased the Zeny 853D but I like your choice which includes purchase of the two year warranty. I have not had any problems with my Zeny but another user has had his soldering iron fail and when he contacted Zeny Customer Service they were not able to help him. (No spare/replacement parts available i seem to recall).

Having the Walmart Warranty would overcome that problem I believe.

Follow-up on the Pro-Tech soldering station

Got the through the oscilloscope soldering and a couple other small tasks with no issues. The heat gun seems to work, but haven't really used it for anything.

I just saw someone post about 'removing the screw' on the Zeny station. I didn't have any notes like that with the Pro-tech. I was looking for it because i had read about it in the Zeny reviews.
