G+_Thomas Kregel
Ideas for remaining projects. Padre, I am sorry to see you leaving. I am grateful for all the fun you bring and grateful I can still go back and see the past broadcasts. By the way, has anyone done a project index? It would be good to browse by project and then map in which episodes they are completed. Sounds like an option for a project itself. However, in terms of a project you could do in your time remaining, I am thinking of a solar garden light. Everything they sell in the stores breaks down in a few months. The plastic fades, in the panel and in the diffusers. Also it is hard to find lantern style lamps that could hang in a tree, shrub or chain. The project could use mason jars for the diffusers. All parts must be easily replaceable, especially the batteries. Another twist could be to do a wind powered lamp, with a propeller so the light dims or brightens as the wind blows at different rates in the garden. By the way are all the store bought one NI-CD because of the price only? What about NI-MH? Missing you already... Tom
G+_Paul Hutchinson
The reasons most of those lamps use NiCAD are because they have a much wider allowed operating temperature range than NiMH. Also the charging circuit can be reduced to a single diode if the photo-voltaic panel is properly matched to the NiCAD battery capacity.
