G+_charles beller
Hi, When starting my laptop, the fan runs then stops abruptly. The computer beeps twice and a message comes on screen saying there is a problem with the fan and to shut off the power. Nothing happens after that. I have examined the fan and it appears ok. It is not clogged with dust and turns freely. Do I replace the fan? Or is it another problem? Thanks for any help.
G+_Timothy Hamlett
Could be a problem with the temperature sensor....
G+_610GARAGE
Its the fan; well, I'm %98 sure it is the fan. At first boot, the computer speeds up all fans too maximum. This makes sure they are working properly. I bet that the fan is not spinning up to max rated rpm, so the computer stops the fan and warns you about it. Or it is drawing too many amps, and does the same thing.
G+_charles beller
I am chagrined. I was removing the fan when I noticed the air exit vent and passage was full of dust. I removed the dust, put everything back together and it works fine. I couldn't see the dust until the fan was removed. Thanks for the responses. G+_Timothy Hamlett
Ahh, it happens to the best of us :). And sometimes that's the way it works, we can't see the real problem until we have tried to fix what we thought was the problem.
