G+_George Kozi
Is anybody else miffed that Chrome is such a memory hog? Does it matter? It kinda bothers me every time I see it in thee task manager.
G+_Brian Gilbert (Ned Jaco
Do you need the memory? Is it causing your system to swap? If you're not swapping, it doesn't matter. RAM sitting empty doesn't do anyone any good.
G+_Ian Murphy
Check out the in-chrome task manager applet to see where the memory is going. Firefox not much better.
G+_Phil Chung
I can't say it really bothers me with 8GB memory. There's a lot that Chrome does in the background these days - Google Now, Remote Desktop etc.
G+_Ian Murphy
Phil Chung I've 12 Gb RAM (only 8 in use) and will often see Chrome consume 7 Gb with between 10 & 20 tabs open
G+_Craig LaBruno
There are a few different extensions for storing tabs while they are not in use which seems to help a little if you constantly have multiple tabs open. Having 10-20 tabs open while using chrome will obviously not run as smoothly as usual.
G+_Ian Murphy
Craig LaBruno 10-20 is "usual" for me. Not hitting my RAM limit yet but will have a look at mem optimisation when I do.
G+_Jerry Ham
Certainly doesn't bother me; I bought the RAM to use it. What gets me more is when it does these two things: - puts a "no sleep" request in to Windows claiming it is "downloading" causing Windows to never sleep. Closing Chrome and re-opening temporarily fixes. But then it will do it again eventually. (you can see these with a cmd line running "powercfg.exe -requests" this one shows up under the "execution" section - sometimes, but not always). - Sometimes takes more processor than it should causing the fan to come on. G+_Mike Elgan
I'm miffed. It's really incredible sometimes.
G+_Levy Harrison
George, if you are talking about Chrome on Android, try CM Browser. I found it by accident a few weeks ago and love it. Small, secure and fast. Sorta like the early days of Chrome.
G+_Tyler Larson
Try running without extensions. Just create a new (temporary) profile and see if you get the same results. Typically it's not chrome that's the memory hog.
