G+_Tim Davis
Yep, just got it today. I think it's part of a Google Play Services update. http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/02/26/silently-installing-itself-on-a-device-near-you-the-green-google-settings-icon-its-just-google-play-services-3-0/
G+_Nick Webster
I don't seem to have it yet on my Galaxy Nexus (yakju).
G+_Courtney Roebuck
Yep, it just showed up. Not sure how I feel about it yet. On the one hand I know anything digital isn't completely private but I continue on sharing information anyway. On the other hand, I don't really like seeing my device bring externally manipulated without my consultation.
G+_Nick Webster
Courtney Roebuck This is part of a Google Play update. It has to be done automatically or else app downloads wouldn't work. You can't update Play with Play. Your device has to be "externally manipulated" for the basics of it to work.
G+_Daniel Kelly
Nick Webster there are a few ways Google could push the update. One of which is play. Nothing stopping play downloading new play and pass the apk to the system installer to install. Or it could be pushed as a normal system update using the same method your phone went from ICS to JB. There are many ways to update without external control that Google has shown.
G+_Nick Webster
Daniel Kelly Most phones don't have system updater attached to Google and Play is a system app and manages a lot of the other apps making it hard to update like a normal app.
