G+_Michael Young
So I recently bought a Ring video doorbell for our brand new house, and bear with me but this is a humorous testimonial. Obviously I did not tell my wife how much I spent on the device, and hung it up one afternoon. I got home, loaded the app on her phone, and showed her how it worked. I got the typical eye roll for "not another gadget" for the house. Fast forward a couple hours, and both our phones go off for a "ring". Now keep in mind that no one is yet living in this house, and it is clearly still a nearly finished construction zone in the dark of night. In fact, I thought it was a fluke with the app at first. We rushed to watch the video, and it was indeed a strange person looking in our windows. My wife was blown away, and could not believe that a few hours after installation we had already caught someone snooping on our front porch! Now she watches the app constantly, and loves catching folks with the motion sensor, and eavesdropping on their conversations. She has gone from eye rolling to evangelist, and now all the neighborhood moms want one. Good news at the end of the story, I ran over to the house to catch the "strange man" on the porch. Turns out it was a pizza guy with a wrong address. So all good in the end. So this is a real life experience for anyone on the fence for the device, it works, and makes spouses happy! -- Father Robert, Mr. Hiipo, and TWiT staff - Feel free to use this testimonial, with first name attribution only please. Keep up the great work on Know How and the rest of the TWiT shows! P.S. I am in no way affiliated with Ring or TWiT, this is really just a happy customer story in an impromptu fashion. Though I might have had a couple beers before posting :)
G+_Dan Hockey
I have one as well. Really neat to see what goes on while I'm at work.
G+_Con Diamantis
Actually a house under construction is probably one of the best places to put surveillance camera like ring as they are easy targets due to generally no one being there after hours. It's very common for places under construction to get broken into and building materials getting stolen by other builders. Nice catch :)
